Fad Weight Loss Diets

For generations, people have tried hundreds of forms of fad diets to lose weight. Fad diets are any type of diet, diet aid, or weight loss program that promises fast, exceptional results with little to no effort on the part of the dieter. These types of diets often focus on one type of food or one type of supplement. Fad diets do yield some results, but they are often considered to be unhealthy.

There are several main characteristics that place a diet in the "fad" category. Some of these characteristics include: the promise of losing weight quickly (at a rate of more than two pounds each week); promising results with no work on your part; claims of weight loss without having to give up any of your favorite high calorie, high fat foods; no need for exercise; numerous customer testimonials (usually provided by paid spokespeople); plenty of before and after photos; claims of having weight loss professionals on staff to answer all of your questions; limits food choices without providing a balanced diet; requires you to purchase items such as meal plans, supplements, prepackaged meals, or pills to get the promised results; and draws simple conclusions from very detailed research studies.

Fad diets remain extremely popular, even though many people are well aware of they would be better using something like the Diet Solution program. This is due to in part to companies and manufacturers preying on the knowledge that people will do just about anything to lose weight, especially when they believe they will have to do very little to achieve tremendous results. It is human nature to choose a quick fix over making difficult changes to lifestyle that will require hard work and dedication.

Fad diets are also commonly practiced because a good number of them actually do provide some short-term results, and quickly. These results occur because most of the diets restrict what you can eat, or cause you to only eat certain types of food. This causes you to consume fewer calories in total, and forces you to pay more attention to your food choices than normal. However, this initial weight loss is usually due to the loss of retained water and lean muscle mass, not from excess fat. People tend to become bored with these diets after a short period of time, and stop practicing them because they cannot stand eating the same foods repeatedly.

People who practice fad diets usually to gain back all of the weight they lost, and in some cases gain even more. It is always a good idea to stick to a healthy, well balanced diet plan, and get regular exercise. The results may not come as quickly, but you will end up having greater success in the long run.
